Read To Dogs

Have you visited our local library branch?  From a vast collection of books and movies, to internet access and meeting rooms, there is something for everyone at the Southwest Branch Library.  If you already make use of the library, or have yet to discover all of the offerings, becoming a friend  of the library can help maintain free services to some of Escambia County’s underserved  groups.  “When you become a Member of the Friends, you join hundreds of generous and compassionate people in our community.”   Click Here to find out more on becoming a Member of the Friends.

Delta Society Therapy Dogs and their handlers from the READ to Dogs program will be on hand to meet and greet everyone.  Emerald Coast Furever Friends representatives will give an update on the therapy dogs, old and new and everyone will get to meet them!

READ to Dogs is a program at the branches of the West Florida Public Library where children who are reluctant or shy to read get to pick a book and read to a big furry friend.

READ Dog

READ to Dogs therapy dog ‘Angel’ entertains Friends members and visitors at the Southwest Branch Library last year.

The program promotes positive reading experience and encourages confidence and self-esteem.  At Southwest, Friends volunteers work with the children, helping to pick out books and get them signed up for the next visit.

The program is sponsored by The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library with funds and books for children to read, as well books to take home.  The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library is a non-profit group whose mission is to support the Southwest Branch of the West Florida Public Library through volunteerism and fundraising.  You don’t have to be a member to come to the meeting!
