Living in the Coastal Zone – A program discussing changes to the National Flood Insurance ProgramMonday, April 21, 2014 – 2:45pm Escambia and Santa Rosa County UF IFAS Extension will host a workshop targeted to home and property owners about changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The NFIP is especially important to Florida as the state has 40 percent of the NFIP’s policies. Recent legislation in 2012 and 2014 have made significant changes to the way flood insurance will be handled in coastal and inland flood zones, raising concerns of significant rate increases. Thomas Ruppert, an attorney and Coastal Planning Specialist with Florida Sea Grant, will discuss the latest impacts of changes to this program. The workshops are free and open to the public.
