Tropical Storm Karen Update #5
Escambia County remains under a Hurricane Watch and is expected to receive moderate impact from Tropical Storm Karen. Overnight, the storm has slowed down and gale force winds are not expected to affect Escambia County until overnight Sunday, October 6. No evacuations or emergency orders are in effect at this time. All Escambia County government offices will open this morning as scheduled.
Current Forecast: Southeasterly gale force winds should start affecting our area on Sunday, October 6 at 3 AM CDT with storm force winds arriving at approximately 7 AM CDT. At this time, the highest expected wind speeds from Tropical Storm Karen should occur near 10 AM CDT, when top sustained winds from the Southeast could reach 63 MPH, with gusts near 76 MPH. Sustained winds willl fall below gale force around 2 PM CDT. Winds will decrease after 2 PM CDT. However, gale force gusts could continue for several hours past that time. Rainfall is expected to be between four and eight inches from Friday through Sunday night, but could vary significantly depending on speed and direction of the storm.
Wind damage from a Tropical Storm Karen could include some loss of roofing material, gutters and/or awning and loss of metal siding.
