The Southwest Branch of the West Florida Public Library held its End of Summer Reading Program party at Big Lagoon State Park amphitheater last week. Friends of the Southwest Branch Library volunteers Dorothy Sergeant and Suzie Stoyer helped staff hand out 73 ‘Dig Into Reading’ kits containing a Little Debbie cake (donated by local distributor Napoleon Cage) on a shovel and a bag of gummy worms to children; total attendance was 118.
Grand prize winners for most days read in the Summer Reading Game were handed out to 4 winners in categories by age. Children logged in their days read each week and threw dice to advance on a game board. The space on which they landed gave instructions as to what to read next–subject, author, etc. Grand prizes included books, toys, book marks, calculators, pens, reading lights, wallets, colored pencils, stuffed animals, puzzles, bubbles, sunglasses, Frisbees and more, according to age group.
The Summer Reading Program for Southwest Branch Library is funded by The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library. Funding for these programs is supported by book sales in the Friends Boutique and bargain carts. Friends welcomes your gently used books, CD’s, DVD’s during regular library hours.
