West Florida Public Library Management has just announced today that the West Florida Public Library System budget will be cut by 30% effective October 1st.

What does this mean?

Your library—Southwest Branch Library—will decrease from the current 60 hours per week to 42 hours per week: Monday 12noon to 8PM; Tue,Wed, Th: 10AM to 6PM; Fri: 10AM to 4PM and Sat: 10AM to 2PM.
Book budget decreases by 85%! This means books, magazines, books on CD, DVD’s, music CD’s. This is 30% to part time staff hours and 1/3 of operational hours!
All branches of the West Florida Public Library System are being cut similarly, including the new Molino branch set to open in October! This includes Escambia County branches as well as City of Pensacola branches.

What can you do?

Call, write, email local government officials to voice your concerns that library be seen as a priority in future budgets.
