Dream Rocket Exhibit

The Florida Panhandle Girl Scouts is currently exhibiting 32 works from ‘The Dream Rocket’ project at the Southwest Branch Library through the end of July. Due to the overwhelming interest and response from patrons and visitors, another collection of 34 more pieces will be on exhibit from August 1st through October 31st.

To view this new collection online visit the dream rocket.

The 2′ x 2′ squared artworks are textile based: quilted, stitched, crocheted, painted, etc. and are colorful and thoughtful expressions of hope, love, and dreams for the future. The theme for the project is ‘daring to dream’ with a focus on technology, community, science, space, peace, conservation and health.

The Dream Rocket Team is collecting about 8,000 artworks from participants around the globe. The artwork will be assembled together to create a massive cover in which will wrap a 37 story Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The submitted artwork will also be displayed in dozens of national venues prior to the wrapping of the Saturn V. Additionally, images of submitted artwork & their stories are being posted on the Dream Rocket Website, Flickr, and Facebook sites. The Dream Rocket project uses the Saturn V Moon Rocket as a symbol of universal values of the human spirit: Optimism, hope, caring for our natural resources, scientific exploration, and harnessing technological advancements for a better quality of life while safeguarding our communities. These are all common desires across national and international boundaries. Participants are able to express and learn about these values through this creative collaboration. Participants are asked to write an essay explaining their artwork, and the dream theme which they chose.
